How did you guys start your crypto journey?
Eric: When I am passionate about something I would be relentless in improving myself to become a master in that interest. Back in late 2020, I just got in the field when Bitcoin started hitting at $30. I saw its potential but chickened out on my first few transactions since it involved sending money to a complete stranger. Finally, I bought $2k worth at $300 when Citibank closed all the saving accounts and I don’t want to place my money in another centralized institution. I remember how the bank manager chuckled when I told him how Bitcoin is going to disrupt the banking industry.
Abhishek: I first heard about bitcoin in 2014 but never really got into it. 2017 ICO craze was the first time I got involved, started small built a good portfolio and it all came crashing down. To be honest this was the biggest learning phase, got more and more involved after 2017, understanding the technology and use cases. The more i researched the more I realized why bitcoin and crypto is going to be the future.
Davorin: To me, it all starts in 2016. I was reading a few Bitcoin articles on the internet which were intriguing so I decided to dig deeper into the field. Since 2017, I have been utilizing my expertise in multi-tasking to work full-time in the crypto industry.
So tell us, how do crypto native like you enjoy your pastime aside from trading?
Eric: As a father, aside from trading crypto, I always spend my time with my kids like watching movies, picnics, or playing video games. We love competing with each other on Hearthstone and Portal, I also found myself enjoying tactics games like The Banner Saga!
Abhishek: Gaming, almost all my hobbies revolve around it. Actively playing CS:GO and Valorant in my spare time. I was a professional poker player, and I still play a few times a month, but not as active as before.
Davorin: Well, my favorite game is the legendary GTA San Andreas, the classic trilogy is well-thought-out, not to mention the flexibility of what you can do in the game! Besides, I enjoy both physical and sedentary activities, like reading books, watching documentaries, playing basketball and football.
How would you comment and what is your prediction for the crypto market?
Eric: The market is still young to be honest, crypto has yet to disrupt the stock market and the Middleman heavy industry like music, games and banking, and digital marketplaces. However, I am optimistic about the inevitability of crypto utilities after the upcoming few years of investment making it a reality and getting rewarded for it. Like Gamepad makes it easy to not just invest but support web3 games.
Abhishek: 50/50, it will either go up or down, unfortunately none of us have a crystal ball. On a serious note, I think we are approaching a more mature market with mainstream companies getting involved, even countries have started recognizing the value of blockchain if not BTC. The future is brighter than the traditional finance industry, but that’s a personal opinion.
Davorin: In the long term, it’s always gonna be bullish, there are tons of possibilities waiting for us to discover with blockchain technology. Although we might experience some downturns on the way, it will only be a good opportunity for new investors to jump in to catch the ride!
What inspired the founding team to start Gamepad?
Eric: We aim to be the next-generation decentralized accelerator. Existing launchpads always just put their focus on the one-time sale and short-term gains resulting in projects losing hype and community members over time. This age-old retention issue hinders those high-quality teams that are in it for the long term and genuinely wants to build a great game with great community support.
“To solve this problem, we are inspired to use our vast experience to establish a holistic decentralized accelerator.”
One thing that will differentiate us from other launchpads is how our support extends to post-launch, motivating investors to hold for the long-term and actively get involved with projects. This leads to a better feedback loop amongst investors, gamers, and game builders.
Aside from the intangible resources our team can bring to the table, our platform will also deliver creative and impactful features to help game builders reach their target audience.
What’s your vision of Gamepad.co by 2023?
Eric: Gamepad.co will be a leading platform for the top tier projects by becoming web3’s combination of Ycombinator + Angelist and Product Hunt!
Abhishek: I think Gamepad will be the best accelerator in the metaverse space with a lot of successfully launched projects. It will be a leading platform for these top tier projects by becoming web3’s combination of Ycombinator + Angelist and Product Hunt!
I want to see Gamepad as a go-to launchpad for gaming projects where not only do projects get help in fundraising but also resources to help them achieve their full potential.
Davorin: I think Gamepad it will be the best accelerator in the metaverse space and with a lot of successfully launched projects.
